In February, a video surfaced showing the unsanitary conditions in restrooms at Maxfield Park Children’s Home with many online calling for an intervention as there we no functioning toilets in that section. On March 20, the Digicel Foundation completed procurement on several toilets for the home. "The home was in urgent need of donations to fix the bathroom for the Baby Centre & School. Not a single toilet worked, & the bathroom serves over 46 children and staff. Toilets had to be flushed with buckets of water and some had no seats,"said Angel Beswick-Reid,attorney & director on the Board of Directors for MPCH.

The Digicel Foundation also covered labour costs for installation & delivered hand sanitizer, disinfectant, disposable gloves & protective masks for MPCH to support the children and caretakers in the fight to contain COVID-19.The Foundation has been making similar donations of sanitary products to Jamaica's 13 infirmaries.

"Safeguarding our country’s most vulnerable populations is important - especially in times of crisis,"said Charmaine Daniels, CEO of the Digicel Foundation who credited Beswick-Reid for tagging the Digicel Foundation in the initial video."We are all so interconnected thanks to modern technology&we are grateful to the home for bringing the conditions in the restrooms to our attention.Creating access to clean infrastructure for Jamaica’s young people is a part of building a world where no one gets left behind - and that is our mission at the Foundation."With a focus on Education,Community Development&Special Needs, the Foundation has invested nearly US$37 million in projects across Jamaica. It has made similar infrastructural improvements at the Alpha Girls School and other institutions. °
“The Board of Directors is extremely grateful for the quick response from the Digicel Foundation.I want to personally thank the directors Jonathan Weymss-Gorman and Angel Beswick-Reid for the effort made in spearheading the donation drive for the plumbing and toilets at our home. Our children deserve the best of everything&we are committed to the transformation of our home during and post COVID-19",said Emprezz Golding, Chairman of the Home's Board of Directors.
