Maxfield Park Children's Home

Picture
Hello and welcome to the Maxfield Park Children's Home. The Maxfield Park Children’s Home has been in operation since 1918. It is one of the private childcare facilities under the supervision of the Child Protection & Family Services Agency (CPFSA), an executive agency of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Jamaica.

The children are admitted after they have been determined to be in need of care and protection as provided by the Child Care & Protection Act (2004). The children are referred through the following sources; The Child Development Agency (Childrens' Office), The Police and the Courts.

The Maxfield Park Children’s Home Limited (the Company) was incorporated under the Companies Act of Jamaica in 1995. The company, which is limited by guarantee and without a share capital, provides a legal vehicle for the operation of the home. Since 2005, MPCH has been operating under the direction of CPFSA and it now receives a monthly Government of Jamaica (GOJ) subvention which is not enough to carry out the operations and services of the home.

The Board of Directors appointed by the Hon Minister of Education, Youth and Information, manages the home.  It provides general oversight and policy guidelines, has responsibility for staff management and undertakes fundraising activities.
A general manager directs daily operations of the facility with support from approximately eighty full-time members of staff, who work on a three-shift system. One hundred and five male and female wards, ages 0-18 years receive care.

The home operates a an early childhood Pre-school and a school for children with special needs that provides instruction for wards where services are lacking in the public school system.

" I want to thank all the volunteers past and present for your contribution to the development of our children and home. 2020 promises to be a transformational year for our children and we look forward to your partnership. A new Board of Directors has been appointed and the home has hired  a new manager, administrator, and contracted a consulting clinical and organisational Psychologist Dr.C. Jama Adams, PHD to provide support to the board, develop training programmes for the staff, assessment of our children and assist in the home's transformational plans. Our challenges are many but the opportunities are plenty. I look forward to working with all volunteers and service providers to improve the lives of our children. We are committed to transparency and transformation." Emprezz Golding, Chairman, Board of Directors.
